Jambeiro 2

What a surprise! It is about a week after and I am writing my blog!

Friday, September 23, 2009
On Friday's school is done early, so instead of leaving at 12:40pm on a regular day, Friday's we are allowed to leave at 12:00pm. However, this Friday our Sociology teacher wasn't there, and since they don't have substitute teachers we got to leave at 11:40am.
After School my host mom picked me up and we went out for lunch. After lunch we met up with a woman who was going to take me and two other girls to the Rotary Conference in Jambeiro, São Paulo. The previous conference we took a bus, but this time we had outbounds for the weekend and their parents came on Sunday.
There were only a few people that stayed the night, mainly people from the state of Rio de Janeiro.

In the morning everyone else arrived and we had breakfast. After breakfast the outbounds and the inbounds split off. This time the entire weekend was in Portuguese, instead of the first time where Inbound Coordinator and the District Chairman spoke in English. So this time they only talked in English for the important parts. Also, the inbounds were all made to speak in Portuguese as well, we were all given a small rubber ball and if they heard us speaking english we got the ball taken away. Well, by the end of the weekend I still had my rubber ball, I just didn't speak in English while any of the Rotarians were listening!
Later on in the evening we had a talent show!!! I played my flute, I played two songs, one was "O Canada", of course, and the other one was just a random song. After words we had time before we went to bed to just talk and get to know people, it was really good and I met a lot of cool people.
For sleeping we had these little cabins that consisted of a small kitchen area, with basically a fridge and a sink, a bathroom, and for sleeping, in the upstairs loft was one double bed and downstairs were three chairs that when you stretched out became a bed. So if you do the math that is two people upstairs and three downstairs = five, we had seven. There were three outbounds and four inbounds, one from USA, one from Germany, Denmark, and CANADA!
What happened is they ended up pushing all the chairs together and were able to uncomfortably sleep four. Upstairs on the other hand, the double bed was large, but not big enough to fit three so, one of us, I think you can guess who, slept on a very, very thin mat on the hard wood floor. However, I shouldn't complain, I kind of offered, I figured

After Breakfast, we had a country fair, where all of the inbounds had one table for their country and all of the outbounds and their parents got a chance to go around and look, I forgot a lot of my things, so my table wasn’t very good, I was also hoping that the other exchange student from Canada would have stuff, but I found out when I got there that she had returned to Canada. It was okay though, some of them said they still wanted to go to Canada, they even said they wanted to live in my house! So that was nice to hear.

Second Month

Today is the day everyone has been waiting for, the day I finally had the time to write my blog.
I will start with about one month ago:

Monday, September 21, 2009
On this day was the start of exams at school, I had 2 per day and I wrote them with three of my friends. Because of this school was done early so I went with my friend Mayara, who rides in the van with me and we took the bus back to Mendes. This is because the van only comes at 12:40 which is when school is usually done.

Friday, September 25, 2009
After school Cristina picked me up and and then we went home and then caught the bus to go to Rio de Janeiro. We spent the weekend at Celia's place.

Saturday, September 26, 2009
Sarturday morning Cristina and I went for a walk down the beach. After we went home and waited for Kevin, my host cousin, to come over. Then Celia, Kevin and I went to Pão de Açucar (Sugar Loaf). However on the bus ride there Celia's wallet got stolen. So we spent a couple minutes trying to figure out if she left it at home or if it really got stolen. However she did have enough money for us to go still. We spent a few hours at Pão de Açucar before we went home. For dinner Kevin and I met Cristina and some of her friends at a nearby mall.

Sunday, September 27, 2009
Celia, Cristina and I went to this large market, where they had a bunch of handmade crafts and souvenirs of Rio and Brasil. So I picked a few things. Then afterwards Marcus came and picked us up and on our way home we stopped at a restaurant for lunch where there was a small room reserved in the back where some of Marcus's coworkers and their families were.

I didn't go to school on this day because, for the past couple of weeks I had a bad cough so Cristina took me to the doctor. It was just a cold but he told me to stay home on Friday. So you are probably thinking I had all day Thursday and Friday to write on my blog, but well as you can see I didn't, tehe.

Thursday, October 1, 2009
I started what is called Ginastica, which is basically a work out type thing.

Friday, October 2, 2009
Friday afternoon, after Angelica was done school she came over for the weekend. Angelica and I went with Cristina to the police station where Cristina works for a Birthday party for her coworker. Afterwards we went back home and then Angelica and I went back to Mendes where we had dinner with other friends, Ranyere, and two brothers, Caio and Gustavo.

Saturday, October 3, 2009
Saturday morning Angelica and I as well as two other girls went for a walk/jog. We went with Scarlett, who is the sister of Caio and Gustavo, and her friend Fernanda. That night we were supposed to go to a show but it was raining and since I wasn’t feeling well we didn’t go.

Happy Birthday Matt

Sunday, October 11, 2009
Starting on Friday there was a large show in a neighboring town called Piraí. The show was three nights, each night with a different singer/band.
On Sunday everyone came up and we all went to the party together. There was Kevin and Erick, my host cousins, Alberto, Vinícius, Ranyere, Gustavo, Caio, and Angelica, who are all friends of Luiza. It was a lot of fun and we saw a singer named Jammil. Everyone was dancing, which I was completely lost at because I can’t dance to Brasilian music but I know I will learn eventually.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
For Canada anyway, they don’t have thanksgiving here. However it was still a holiday and I didn’t have to go to school. So I hung out with everyone before they all went home.

BÚZIOS!!!!
On Friday, Angelica, Cristina, Marcus and I all went to Búzios, the city where Marcus works. It was absolutely beautiful! We stayed in a hotel which had to be the nicest hotel I have ever stayed in. Angelica and I stayed in one room and Marcus and Cristina in the other. After we arrived, Angelica and I went for a walk down to the beach, which less than five minutes away. After the beach, we went back to the hotel and played in the games room for a while. Later on we went for dinner with Marcus and Cristina in the Hotel Restaurant.
After dinner we all went for a walk just around the streets and in the shops and stuff.

Saturday, October 18, 2009
We had breakfast again in the hotel restaurant where we met up with a family; there was Castro, Jose and their two daughters Fernanda and Patricia, Castro works with Marcus. After breakfast we all went down to the beach/harbor where we took a three hour boat tour of Búzios. The boat stopped three times along the way where we were able to jump in and go for a swim.
Later on in the evening we went bowling. It was a lot of fun; we played two games, the first time I can’t remember how badly I did but the second time I got second place. Marcus got a score of 101 and I got 99….so close!!!
We then went back to the hotel for dinner. This night Fernanda stayed in the room with Angelica and I.

Sunday, October 19, 2009
When we woke up, Angelica, Fernanda and decided to go to the beach, where we just walked around and took pictures. Then when we got back to the hotel everyone else was getting ready to go to the beach so we went back to the beach for a swim. Where we spent a part of the day and by the end of the day my skin showed it. While we were at the beach this boat pulled up with about a 10 person tube on the back and so we paid R$20 per person, which was a lot of fun. Then we went out for lunch and after lunch we all walked around looking in the souvenir shops, so I got a couple of things. Then at about 6pm we said goodbye and headed back to Mendes.
