At about 4am or so, Roberto, the mexican exchange student, arrived. I was still slightly wake, so I got up to say hello, and went straight back to bed.
In the morning, Angelica, Liam, Kevin, Angelica and I went for a swim as we waited for Roberto to wake up. When he eventually did we had lunch and went back to the pool.
Roberto travelled for almost two days making I think 3 stops, one of the stops he spent 8 hours in the airport.
For the rest of the day everyone just hung out in the pool getting to know Roberto. Later Aline came over and everyone started getting ready to go to the airport to pick up Guilherme, my host brother who was returning home from Germany.
Everyone headed to the airport, and I stayed at home with Liam and Roberto, none of us knew Guilherme so there wasn't any point in us going to the airport. Instead we made welcome posters and blew up balloons, along with another one of my friends, Ranyere, who came over later.

They got back at about 1:00am, and we all stayed up until 4am listening to Guilherme's stories. Later in the day, after everyone slept, we just spent the day in the pool, listening to more stories.

On Saturday, everyone came over and we had a big barbeque, for the arrival of Gui and Roberto. I spent most of the day in the pool and I have to say I am getting a pretty nice tan. Then once again we stayed up until early morning just talking and having a good time.

On Wednesday, I went to a Rotary meeting to welcome Guilherme and Roberto. Guilherme and Roberto both dressed up in there blazers, unfortunately I already sent mine to my second families house, so I just wore a Canadian T-shirt. We had a pasta dinner, which was very good, and the three of us just talked a little, Roberto introduced his self, Guilherme told everyone about his time in Germany and I told everyone about my time in Brasil.

I went with Angelica, Guilherme, Roberto and Ranyere to a town called Vassouras where we went to a restaurant and watched a Soccer game on TV. In Rio de Janeiro there are 4 major teams, Vasco, Flamengo,Fluminense and Boto Fogo. My first host family's team is Vasco and my second host family's team is Flamengo. There is a lot of feud between the fans of all of the teams, my host sisters of my First and Second family are best friends, but when it comes to the teams they always fought. With them it was always for fun but with some people it isn't.

Monday morning I moved to my second host family, they live in a different city than my first family so we all woke up early in the morning put my things in the car and headed to Barra do Piraí. As we were getting closer to Barra it didn't take us long to realize that the river was very full. As we got even closer the road was backed up with cars from the water that was flooded onto the road. We then had to back track and enter in from another way. We got a little bit further in but it would have taken us two hours to wait for all the traffic. So Angelica and I got out, took as much as we could handle and walked across town. We ended up walking three blocks in the opposite direction just to find a clear street.

I went to a Pre Carnaval party called Tchakabum. I went with my host sister, Angelica and a few of her friends. We left at 8:40 for a 1 hour bus ride to a town called Piraí.
Sunday, February 7, 2010
We sat in the main square of town and headed to Tchakabum at about 12:00am. It was a lot of fun, but I was really tired. We caught the first bus back to Barra do Piraí at 6:00 and arrived home at 7am. I went straight to bed and slept until about 1ish. Where I got up had lunch took a shower and went back to bed and slept until 5pm. Then later went back to bed at 10ish.

I have officially been here for 6 months! Monday night there was a huge party in the streets, called Bloco das Piranhas. It has to be the funniest thing I have ever seen. All of the men dress like woman and then later on in the night there is a big parade in the street.
Today I didn't do much, i got home from school and had lunch and wrote this blog.
beijos,
